Here’s what TCGLAD can do for you.
At TCGLAD, we provide a variety of deaf services and programs to the deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled community, including hearing parents of deaf children. In addition to the existing services we provide, we also provide cultural and sensitivity training to hospitals, health care, companies, and organizations who wish to learn more about Deaf culture and American Sign Language.
This is the list of the services we provide to the community at wide:
Communication Assistance
For deaf consumers whose first language is American Sign Language, qualified staff members translate written documents into American Sign Language (ASL). Telephone interpreting is also providing to deaf and hard of hearing persons who need assistance and are unable to efficiently use the variety of relay services available.
Peer Counseling
Qualified staff provide peer counseling in all areas of daily living. Consumers receive assistance resolving housing concerns, consumer protection, educational questions, or any other social or economic concern.
Advocacy
We advocate on behalf of individuals and groups experiencing discrimination in employment, education, communication access, social security recipients and parents planning their deaf child’s education.
Independent Living
Instruction is given on such skills as money management, shopping, public transportation, cooking, among other daily life activities.
Employment Services
GLAD can assist deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled job seekers with the following services: Job Counseling, Resume Development, Application Assistance, Interview Preparation, and more
Information and Referral
Up to date information on all aspects of deafness is available via videophone, telephone, TTY, email or in-office services.
Community Education
Family Outreach Advocacy
TCGLAD’s Family Outreach Advocates work with deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled youth, plus their parents and/or legal guardians, to create positive outcomes and ensure a higher quality of life.
Interpreter Referral
In affiliation with LIFESIGNS Inc., a non-profit interpreter referral service, we assist deaf, hard of hearing and hearing individuals arrange for qualified interpreters. In addition, LIFESIGNS Inc. provides specialized interpreter services for medical and law enforcement emergencies as well as emergency situations.
